Editing video feedback and learner response

1)Comments from teacher:

  • Good opening shot and i think the audio works really well.
  • The major issue is pace and transitions this would be more effective at one minute or so. More pace would add a lot. In terms of transitions, always use straight cuts unless there is a very specific reason to use a wipe / dissolve etc.
  • Table tennis could have been great for match on action and shot reverse shot! Missed opportunity.
  • Framing of shots for conversation not quite right.
2)Feedback from students:

WWW:

  • Very well edited transitions used and all shots used.
  • Good over the shoulder shots.
  • Good examples of match on action.
  • Music fit well.
  • 180 degree rule was good.
  • Successfully used all shots.
EBI:

  • Beginning of a few shots had the actor waiting to do the action.
  • Audio cuts in fade it in.
  • Timing of the shots could be improved.
  • The shot of actor looking at camera wasn't shot properly.
3) I believe that in my video i had various shots but had very simple shots and didn't really follow certain shots like shot reverse shot and match on action but it included the 180 rule.
the aspects i have learned from doing this task is that when i shoot my video i should make sure my actor doesn't look at the camera and when there is a continuous shot the stopping in between shouldn't be seen. Also the fact that when i added my transitions made it less natural so i should have added more straight cuts and transitions when neccessary.

4)
Strengths of my video:
  • Audio worked well
  • The shots were consistent
  • opening shot set the scene
Weaknesses of my video:
  • During my video the actors looked at the camera
  • Some shots were not well editing like the part where the conversation was shot and i zoomed in to try and improve it.
  • Some parts like when at the stairs the actors were walking up you could see that the actors stopped then continued.
5) The editing part that was the most difficult was that getting the shots in at the right time and using the camera so that the shots framing works and next time to shoot as the camera kept stopping so next time i have to make sure the framing of the shot is well so that my scene looks better. Also when I shoot my video i have to make sure that i start the camera before i shoot the scene so when i edit i can cut in the right time for my shots.
