Research and planning tasks:

1) State the genre you have chosen - horror or coming of age drama.
Horror

2) Choose at least five films in your selected genre and watch the trailer and one scene from each film. Make bullet-point notes on everything you watch, commenting on camerawork, editing, sound and mise-en-scene.

It
There are elements of horror and this is visible through fast paced editing and the shots are quite close and the establishment of the clown suggests that this is related to that and the narrative is made to do with the clown.
low key lighting /abandoned setting/children seem vulnerable.

It follows
This movie has elements of enigma and sets out Mystery for audiences as they don't know what is actually happening to the protagonist.
There is abandoned setting/hidden aspects given to create suspense/fast paced editing/sound is quite loud and mysterious.

Truth or dare

This film trailer has much more enigma and narrative established making it seem that there is a obsession over the characters from this game. There are Horrific scenes that establish the genre through fast paced edits and vulnerability of the characters.

Monsters:
This trailer uses very less amount of characters establishing the horror genre by giving short scene with cuts and abandoned places as they seem to be on some type of mission giving a mysterious sound to it.

3) Write a 250 word statement of intent for your film scene. This should follow AQA's guidance (look in your coursework booklet) and clearly lay out how you will use media language to meet your brief. You should also discuss what representations you plan to create (either reinforcing or challenging stereotypes) and how your scene would appeal to an audience.

I plan to make a 1 to 2 min video for this task and I have chosen to make a horror scene for this task and which will have elements of psychological horror as one of the character is in grief upon her friends death. This seen will establish shots and contain elements of hallucination as she is recovering from this traumatic event. This scene is shot outdoor and will have the character alone in one location during this perioud. The shots will include wide establishing shots and close ups as the video will begin and this will increase tension for audiences as it will be quite slow paced and eerie.

The target audience for this video would be quite a young audiences like 16-20 year olds as its revolved around quite a sensitive issue and seems more relate able because of issues that go on in society today to do with unexpected deaths. Audiences may be able to build personal relationship and be able to sympathise with the character themselves.

This character will eventually become controlled by this ghost of her friend as the narrative through out the whole movie but because this is simply a short scene where the character is shown in grief after loosing her loved one. I think this will be quite a simple narrative to understand as the character is seen be quite upset and hearing voices who is really disturbed. This will help me subvert stereotypes during this film scene as now days young people get really affected and this will be able to relate to other demographics.

4) script:

                                                                    EXT PARK:
                                                                      Female
                                                             sitting on swing
                                                                (humming)

                                                     looking at photo(missing her friend)
Female voice whispers in back ground
Listen... Listen.... can you hear me?

                                                                    Female

                                                              Looking around

Voice of friend who has passed away:
                                                                I am right here ....

                                                                        Female:
Frightened looking around mind hallucinates begins to see her friend that has passed away
                                                                   (Breathes heavily)

                                                                         Female:
                                                                         Where?....

                                                                                 Female:
                                                                        (paranoid)

5) Storyboard at least five key shots from your scene, take a photo of the storyboard and upload it to your blogpost. What visual style are you trying to create? Storyboard sheets are available in DF07

.

6) Write a shot list containing EVERY shot you plan to film AND additional shots to create flexibility when editing. These additional shots are often close-ups, cutaways, alternative angles or similar. I advise using a simple table on Microsoft Word to set out your shot list - you can find an example here

Media Magazine reading:  Billie Jean , birth of an icon Go to our  Media Magazine archive  and read the case study on  Billie Jean  - birth of an icon (MM62 - page 20). Answer the following questions: 1) What was the budget for  Billie Jean ? How did this compare with later Michael Jackson videos? The budget for the video was 50,000 but his other music videos had higher budgets compared to Billie jean such as thriller which has budget of $2 million. 2) Why was the video rejected by MTV? The video was rejected because MTV said that it won't fit in with their middle America Audience which meant that they were racist and didn't want to air a black artist performing on their channel  and after they were threatened they agreed to air the video.
